Dance Release Meditation (with Valerian)

You may have brought the dance exercise from day 3 of the course into your regular routine.  Have you enjoyed a morning boogie to wake you up?

When thinking about the health benefits of  a good dance, lean muscles and improved fitness spring to mind. But dancing also provides us with so much more than just physical exercise, it also complements our mental wellbeing and leads to greater happiness and of course ease in falling to sleep.

The body’s instinct to respond to rhythm is primal. Dance, in its various forms, can be traced back into almost every culture, embedded in social practice as means of connection, ritual and celebration.

Dancing stimulates the brain’s reward centres, such as the orbitofrontal cortex which is involved with memory and emotion. Our bodies respond to the rhythms, and the result is a wave of release of endorphins and serotonin, making it a highly effective form of stress-relief.   The endorphins aid us in letting go of our inhibitions so as you dance you can get more of a sense of freedom and losing yourself in the dance.

The endorphins are responsible for post-dance feelings like optimism and relaxation.

Today we invite you to let go and lose yourself in the music.  Really allow your body to respond to the music and shake off any inhibitions.  If it feels challenging to start with, go with it and as the music continues and the endorphins start to flow you will start to find your natural groove.

We have a choice of a couple of music mixes to help you to let go of all those inhibitions and have a dance and play.
